shop at home

Have you ever cleaned out your cupboards or moved house, you usually discover things you haven't used or worn for a while - I call it shopping at home. Why not spend this weekend rediscovering things you already own - a CD you haven't played or a dress you haven't worn. Seriously it can be fun (and free)!

Shopping is not necessarily bad

In a radio interview today I kept getting asked what's wrong with shopping, well there is nothing wrong with shopping per se, but if you are using it as your only stress release, are accruing credit card debt or just adding to stuff you don't need then it is a problem. The return to conscious spending is about thinking and planning your shopping, saving up for something you really need and using cash to buy it. Then it will be a guilt-free purchase and you can enjoy it.

Go shopping at home

If you have been an over-shopper for a while then you are bound to have lots of stuff in your home. Think about cleaning out some cupboards and resorting your collections of clothes, shoes, DVDs, CDs, books, you are bound to find something you haven't worn, read or watched ever, or at least for while. Rediscovering old things, can you give you that fix of buying something new. Try it, it's free - you may get rid of some clutter at the same time!

Shopaholics and overshoppers are judged

Shopaholics and overshoppers are judged and misunderstood in the way that smokers and obese people are. Everyone knows what's not good for them, it's just not that simple to figure out how to stop, you need to fill in the gaps in your life in another way.

off the grid

As a media brat, it's hard to let go, but have been off the grid for 5 days and feeling refreshed, but somewhat confused. Did an interview for my book today http://www.howtogiveupshopping.com

People think that over-shopping has stopped because of the GFC, but it's worse because there are so many sales to tempt people.
